Thank you for your interest in ReachOut’s research study!
By filling out this survey you can help us understand what young people who use ReachOut think of our service. Your answers help improve our service to help young people feel better through tough times. The survey asks you to tell us a bit about you, how you have used ReachOut and whether you found it helpful. There are also some questions about your mental health. The survey is confidential.

Who can participate?
We are interested in hearing from anyone aged 14-25 years living in Australia who has used ReachOut in the past 12 months. This could be either visiting ReachOut’s website or viewing ReachOut social media, or both. If you are younger than 14, older than 25, a health professional, a teacher or a parent, this survey isn’t for you.

Your participation in this survey is voluntary. If you change your mind you can stop at any time, even if you have already submitted your responses. It should take around 10 minutes to do the survey. If you don’t have time now, you can come back later and do it.

Are there any benefits to participating?
By participating in the study, you will be helping us to learn more about how organisations like ReachOut help young people, and how we can do better. At the end of the survey, you will also have the option to enter into a prize draw to win one of 25 vouchers to the value of $100. We’re hoping to hear from about 500 young people. This would give each person roughly a 1 in 20 chance of winning a voucher. The terms and conditions for the draw can be found here.

Are there any risks to participating?
You may find some questions personal or upsetting. You don’t have to respond to any questions you don’t feel comfortable answering. If you need someone to talk with, you can contact:

All responses are confidential.
Your responses will be grouped together with those of other respondents. Any information that is made public (media, social media, academic papers) will be about the project as a whole and no personal information, that might allow someone to guess your identity, will be included.

We may need to share information with other services if you tell us about a significant risk of harm to yourself or another person, as part of our duty of care to keep you and other people safe. We may also need to share information if we receive a legal subpoena for information. Both of these are unlikely but possible events. Please contact our Senior Manager Social Impact at research@reachout.com if you have any questions about how we protect your confidentiality.

If you choose to enter your email address (e.g. to enter the prize draw, receive a summary of results, or to participate in future research), this may provide ReachOut with identifying information (e.g. your name). We will separate your email address from your responses to minimise the risk of you being identified.

How can I find out about the results of the research?
A summary of the findings will be made available via email within six months of the survey closing. If you choose we can let you know the details when this is available. The results may also be presented at academic conferences and published in research journals.

Who do I contact if I have questions or want to withdraw from the study?
If you have any questions about the survey, or you want to withdraw your consent to participate in the study, please email our Senior Manager Social Impact, at research@reachout.com. If you contact us to let us know that you don't want to be in the study any more, we will securely delete your responses (provided you've given us an email address in the survey). Otherwise, responses you've already entered will be retained confidentially. You can also contact bellberry@bellberry.com.au (tel: 08 8361 3222) if you have any concerns about the ethical conduct of this research. Withdrawing from the study won't make any difference to how you choose to engage with ReachOut in the future.
